Interested in volunteering? We have plenty of opportunities. Serve as a child advocate in our front lobby, help with facility repairs and renovations, or join an event committee. Have an idea of your own? We’d love to hear it! The Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center relies on volunteers to help us achieve our goal of reducing the incidence of child abuse and its impact on our community.
Child Advocates: Interact with the children in our lobby and ensures their safety while in our waiting area. Child advocate volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation held by Dee Norton staff members that familiarizes them with confidentiality issues and helps to prepare them for any situations that may arise while volunteering at the center. Anyone volunteering as a child advocate must sign a confidentiality statement as well as give authorization for a background check. There is a $10 non-refundable fee that must be paid in advance to cover the cost of a South Carolina background check.
Workday Projects: Keep the center a comfortable , welcoming environment for children and families. Dee Norton holds weekend workdays approximately once a month to provide needed repairs and renovations need to keep. Workday projects are custom designed for each group.
Special Events: Help child victims in our community by participating in the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center’s fundraising events. Dee Norton hosts several fundraising and awareness events and participates in other child focused events throughout the community. Volunteers are needed to participate in these events as representatives of the Center alongside our staff.
Other Volunteer Opportunities: Assist the Dee Norton staff with clerical duties or other tasks. We are happy to develop a specific volunteer opportunity designed for your interests.
Our volunteers are an integral part of what we do at the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center. If you are interested in volunteering as a Child Advocate, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Savannah Morgan. Each day our staff and partners leave their families to respond to another’s family crisis. During this pandemic, or any other crisis, that will not change.
We continue to see high priority cases for forensic interviews and have not yet seen a reduction in the volume of those cases.
Our individual, evidence-based mental health services and our family advocacy services will be offered through Telehealth solutions.
