01 Mar Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center Raises Over $781K at Annual Dinner Auction
Charleston, S.C. February 26, 2019 – Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, the region’s leading resource to prevent abuse, protect children and heal families, raised $781,120 at the center’s annual dinner auction, “New Day. New Hope. New Dream.” held on Thursday, February 7. These record-breaking funds will be used to support the services Dee Norton offers, including on-site forensic interviews, medical examinations, mental health assessments as well as immediate support and coordination – all of which are provided at no cost to children’s families.
“I am so inspired by the generosity of our community and their belief, as we believe, that children can, and do, heal from the effects of abuse as long as they receive proper care. The money raised at Thursday’s auction ensures children in our community will continue to receive high quality care in a friendly and professional environment. More specifically, enough funds were raised to cover the cost of comprehensive services for 560 children,” said Executive Director Dr. Carole Swiecicki.
Generously hosted by Blair and Teddy Turner, Jr. and the partners of the Cedar Room, guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers while they bid on unique and exciting silent auction items as well as fine original art from local artists. Following a specially prepared three-course dinner, the live auction offered vacations near and far, including trips to Telluride, C.O. and Big Sky, M.T. and an island getaway to Bermuda. Other packages included a private dinner with Chef Jeremiah Bacon and a surprise trip to Paris this fall for Paris Fashion Week.
“It’s an incredible feeling to know that this night – all of the hard work, the planning, the organizing – is truly worth every bit of it. This event changes children’s lives,” said Cara Lynn Cannon, chair of this year’s auction committee.
